Indigo 13oz Selvedge Denim Bakers Chore Jacket

The Bakers jacket is our take on a classic chore jacket. With a design that dates back to the earliest days of Universal Works, it has become one of our signature styles. The name “Bakers” was adopted from our Co-Founder and Designer's father, who wore a simple coverall for his job as a baker. Whilst conforming to the key principles of a chore jacket (a simple utility garment, often worn as a protective layer), our Bakers jacket has several distinctive features; from seams to create the shape, layered pockets and our signature diagonal buttonhole on the button stand. This jacket is a great everyday staple designed to be worn wherever and however you like.

 

Made in a vintage style from 13oz narrow loom red selvedge denim, this fabric goes through a slow process similar to American denim in the last century. A 3/1 twill weave, it has a indigo-dyed yarn over undyed natural yarn, creating a rigid texture that will soften with wear and use. When washed, the garment will stretch to the wearer's shape. Over time the fabric will develop a unique patina.

 

Made in Portugal by one of our favourite denim makers, we’ve been working with them since 2011.

 

This garment is dyed with indigo. Take care as some colour transfer may occur when worn close to lighter-coloured garments and furniture. Like your favourite jeans, this garment will gradually fade with wear. Wash separately.
